Foam egg cartons make excellent insulation. (Think of a lousy dog house covered with egg cartons followed with straw bales. it will make a difference!)

When you are out hiking, pick up trash along the way.

Ask co-workers to bring their unwanted cups, mugs, plates, cloth napkins, and silverware to work to replace disposable items in the break room.

Christmas Trees
  • Buy a living tree you can plant outside or keep as a houseplant after the holidays.
  • Buy a tree grown locally to save energy associated with transportation.
  • Buy a smaller tree. There's less to dispose of when you take it down, and shorter growing time translates into less land required.
  • If your town doesn't have a tree chipping/reuse system, ask why.

    Trashy facts
The US produces half of the world's garbage, but has only 6% of the world's people! In the US, each person generates about 4.3 pounds of trash a day. For a family of four, that's 6278 pounds, or more than THREE TONS of trash each year!
